Apple ‘Peek Performance’ event summary: iPhone SE 5G and Mac Studio unveiled with M1 Ultra chip

Apple CEO Tim Cook took to the stage for the hugely popular “Peek Performance” until Tuesday, and as expected, the Cupertino company revealed a host of new products, including the third-generation iPhone SE and Mac Studio Desktop with the M1 super slice. Here’s a quick summary of everything Apple announced at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park.

iPhone SE 5G

After months of leaks and rumors, Apple has finally unveiled a new third-generation iPhone SE. Similar to its predecessor, the new iPhone SE retains the same 4.7-inch screen, with a thicker bezel and Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The new iPhone SE features the A15 Bionic processor, the same processor found inside the iPhone 13.

It comes in three colors, midnight, starlight, and (product red). It also features 5G network for super fast download and upload. The phone also features Deep Fusion camera technology and Apple photography modes. It will retail at Rs 43,900 and hit retail shelves on March 18.

iPhone 13 new color

Apple is adding two new colors to the iPhone 13. Users can pre-order the iPhone 13 in “green” and the iPhone 13 Pro in “alpine green” starting Friday.

iPad Air 5

At a Peek Performance event, Apple removed the covers for the all-new iPad Air. On the outside, the iPad Air looks just like its predecessor but on the inside, it’s powered by an M1 chip, It’s the processor used in the high-end iPad Pro and MacBook Air models. It also has optional support for 5G networks.

The front camera has been upgraded to 12MP with a wide-angle lens, enabling a feature called Center Stage that keeps you in frame of your video calls. It will cost Rs 54,900 and hit store shelves on March 18.

M1 Ultra . chip

Apple has announced a new chip called the M1 Ultra, which the company says is the world’s most powerful desktop processor. Apple said it has more transistors than any other computer chip and includes a 64-core graphics processor. “We’ve switched nearly every product in the Mac lineup to Apple Silicon,” Cook said. Apple currently sells Macs equipped with the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max chipsets.

Mac Studio with M1 Ultra Chip and Studio Monitor

Mac Studio has been a brand new desktop computer for years. It’s not a high-end Mac, pre-revamped. It’s basically a Mac without a screen, a cube-shaped aluminum box with USB-C ports, and an SD card slot on the front. Mac Studio brings back memories of the G4 Cube, an excellent Mac that was unveiled in 2000.

The device is taller than the current Mac mini, just for context. This extra height is used to keep the computer’s temperature low. Apple also announced a stand-alone display called Studio Display. The screen is a 27-inch 5K screen. The studio monitor features three USB-C ports and one Thunderbolt port. Mac Studio with M1 Max chip starts at Rs. 189,900 The M1 Ultra starts at Rs 389,900. The studio offer starts at Rs 159,900.
