The Browns trade quarterback and sign another after Deshaun Watson’s takeover

The Cleveland Browns traded a player behind a spare back and replaced him by signing a free agent after a Deshaun Watson trade.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback’s room has been radically changed this season. The team acquired Deshaun Watson, who faces 22 civil lawsuits over allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, from the Houston Texans in exchange for multiple high draft picks, as well as giving the quarterback a five-year contract worth $230 million. It came after Brown was initially disqualified from the race earlier in the week and Baker Mayfield asked for a team swap.

Saturday’s deal took place, but it did not include Mayfield.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pellisero, Brown traded backup quarterback Case Keenum to the Buffalo Bills for the 2022 seventh-round draft. The team effectively replaced him with Jacobi Brissett, who signed a one-year contract with Cleveland, according to Adam Shifter. From ESPN NFL.

Keenum joined Cleveland again in 2020 on a three-year, $18 million contract. In the past two seasons, Keenum has appeared in nine games, starting in two. He threw for 508 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while completing 63.4 percent of his passes. Now, he’s hired to back up Josh Allen at Bills.

Brissett, a 2016 NFL draft by the New England Patriots, was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2017 to fill in for injured Andrew Luck. Two years later, Brissett was on top again after Luck announced his retirement ahead of the 2019 season.

In 46 games (30 starts) with the Colts, Brissett completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 6,059 yards, 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Brissett was part of the Miami Dolphins this past season, having five starts in 11 games. He threw for 1,283 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Although Watson has not been criminally charged, he could still face a penalty from the NFL. If it is stopped, then Brisset will start in its place. In his career, Brisset has a 14-23 win loss record.
