Who will the St. Louis Cardinals regret missing out on the free agent lottery?
The Cardinals went into this season with a huge wish list. It reflects what fans hope to see. The Cardinals were going for it. It is said to be the final season for Adam Wainwright and Yadir Molina. The club wants to bring out the Cardinal’s legends in style – like the World Series champions.
The coveted list included a short first-class pit stop, a starting pitcher or two, relief tips, and bench assist.
And a short first-class stoppage was quickly pulled off when baseball card division chief John Muziliak expressed renewed hope in the success of Paul DeJonge, who fought off the nearly 2021 season with injury. DeJong has worked hard in the off-season to improve his approach to the board as well as work on the field.
DeJong’s contract with the Cardinals is another motivation to keep him. DeJong is in the middle of a six-year, $26 million contract that ends in 2023 but includes club options for 2024 and 2025. Corey Dickerson has been signed as a bench option. He is able to play on the field and assists Tyler O’Neill, Dylan Carlson, Harrison Bader and Lars Knottbar. He can also see time as the designated hitter because the left-hander has an excellent bat.
