Netflix adapts Evelyn Hugo’s seven husbands in new movie

One of the biggest novels in recent years is officially heading to Netflix. On Thursday, it was announced that the live broadcast service will be adapted Evelyn Hugo’s Seven Husbands In a feature film with Liz Tiggler (Little fires everywhere, unexpected life) Adaptation. Taylor Jenkins Reed penned The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, who also wrote the hits Daisy Jones & The Six and Malibu Rising. Reed will be implementing the projects, along with Margaret Chernin, Lisa Chasin and Brad Mendelson.

Evelyn Hugo’s Seven Husbands It follows reclusive Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo, who chooses an unknown reporter, Monique Grant, to tell her life story. Evelyn recounts her time in Hollywood’s golden age, her rise to fame, and her seven marriages–revealing startling secrets and lies. But one question remains: why did she choose Monique for her last confession?

Evelyn Hugo’s Seven Husbands It’s been a hit since its publication in 2017, most recently thanks to TikTok’s “BookTok” corner, where hashtags and themes surrounding the novel have gained millions of views. The book recently spent 54 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller paper list.

“I just decided that what I wanted to do was tell an honest, heartbreaking story that you might like and Evelyn might not like,” Reid Explained in a 2017 interview with PopSugar. “I think most people, regardless of whether they like her or not, will respect her. And that’s another thing, as I get older, I realize that it can be quite opposites when it comes to being a woman. Sometimes respect is something we have to choose between. And as I get older as a person , I try to err toward the latter, which I’d rather be respected than admired, and I think my characters go in that direction.”

“I know there are people who are going to be very late for the things that Evelyn does,” Reid continued. “I wrote it with the intention of being honest and not with the intention of being likable. I’m nervous about the book out there; I know it’s a different book than any I’ve ever written. Evelyn and the other main character, Monique, both struggle at different times to get into their own business and claim “Respect and get what they deserve and see themselves as strong women. I write about it because I struggle with it, because I’m trying to become that. I hope that other women are in the same place I am, and when they see these women doing it, they feel that they can.” Like me, like a book, like Evelyn, or not, but I hope, starts a conversation.”
