PS5 Pro version is said to be faster than everyone thinks

According to a new report, the PS5 Pro is not only already in the works at Sony, but it’s likely to launch sooner than speculation suggests. As in 2021 and 2020, PS5 manufacturing has been a challenge for Sony, which is why supply still can’t keep up with demand two years later. Not only is the supply hampered by a severe shortage of microchips, but the ongoing shipping crunch. The industry is still feeling the effects of production that was severely interrupted during the pandemic. In short, it’s a horrific time for video game consoles to be mass-produced, which is why many assume the PS5 Pro won’t happen any time soon, as bringing another console into the mix only complicates the situation. This is a reasonable assumption, but according to a new report, it is not accurate.

In a new YouTube video, RedGamingTech has passed on word that Sony is aiming to release a PS5 Pro by the end of 2023, but a release in 2024 is almost certainly on the table at this point. Accompanying this claim, it was revealed that the console will aim to achieve 2.5x performance in Ray Tracing and will be more suitable for gaming with the upcoming PlayStation VR 2.

As you’d expect, RedGamingTech dives deep into the console’s subtle technical details. For example, the YouTuber notes that the PS5 Pro will use TSMC’s 5nm process. If these kinds of subtleties interest you, check out the video below:

For now, it looks like the big difference between what the current PS5 offers and what the PS5 Pro offers will be in the graphic department, with more powerful internals aimed at improving Ray Tracing capabilities. Which makes sense, because Ray Tracing will be the “thing” in this console generation.

For now, though, take it all here with a grain of salt. This is a rumor and is not official information from the PlayStation Blog or a Sony press release. However, the timing of the aforementioned release is at least in line with a mysterious new leak from Sony.
