EA has given the green light for the decision to change the name of its FIFA games to ‘EA Sports Football Club’.

Electronic Arts has reportedly given the green light for the decision to rename/rename its FIFA games franchise as “EA Sports Football Club”. In his last book Show GiantBombGaming journalist Jeff Grob confirmed that the name change comes after some tension between the federation and EA, and it was confirmed internally.

Multiple brand applications last year indicated that AAA publisher was looking for a potential name for the football series – EA Sports FC. Grubb claims, at the time, that he thought it was for a new online feature. “I saw her trademarks. I thought it could just be a feature like online mode, but I asked about it and about it,” he said in the video.

Licensing agreements between EA and FIFA usually last for 10 years and are expected to expire after the World Cup in Qatar in November 2022. Grubb claims that the publisher is ready to go ahead with the new name and that the new trailer is very close. For comparison, EA usually begins marketing its FIFA title in June, although this year fans may expect an early reveal.

The news comes after a VGC Transfer Last month, EA CEO Andrew Wilson claimed he was willing to ditch the FIFA brand of its titles, calling it a “hindrance”. He stated that the board of directors prevented the team from expanding its playing modes beyond the traditional 11v11 matches. He also noted that the only value a publisher got from a FIFA license in a year other than the World Cup was the “four letters on the box”.

Rumors about a name change began in October 2021, following a financial dispute between the two agencies. According to ES, trademarks and licensing FIFA have become too expensive, with the federation demanding more than double the amount in the long run – about $2.5 billion.

As for the game itself, FIFA 23 reportedly comes with cross-play support This year, allowing cross-player play on PlayStation, Xbox and Windows platforms. It is also expected to witness two world championships – men’s and women’s, with Russian national teams and clubs.
