Saturday Night Live Star Michael Che Backs Down On Leaving Weekend Update

Looks like Michael Che might not be leaving Saturday Night Live’s “weekend update” after all. As soon as news of the comedian’s comments started circulating online, Che himself took to Instagram to set the record straight. The comedian quickly made it clear that he has no plans to leave SNL despite his comments at a recent stand-up in the Twin Cities.

Che shared on Instagram, “Comedy fans; please stop telling reporters everything you hear on a comedy show. You screw up the trick.” “I said it on a comedy show, and some asshole copied it and wrote an article. I also don’t prefer j-king over sex. And I don’t buy a urinal for my house. The jokes are as well.”

Word of Chi’s possible departure initially appeared through a report from Minneapolis Star Tribune And a pause in the area last week and spread quickly on the Internet after the fact. Che has hosted the iconic sketch since 2014, and was promoted to lead writer starting with the 2017 season. He has co-hosted the segment along with Colin Jost ever since.

Lizzo then heads to 30 Rock on April 16 to be a host and musical guest. It’s her first time hosting and her second time appearing in a live comedy as a musical guest.
