Recently retired Pittsburgh Penguins honored Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger during Tuesday night’s game against the New York Rangers.
After eliminating the Pittsburgh Steelers on the Wild Card’s round of playoffs, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announced his retirement from the NFL. All 18 of his seasons have been played with the Steelers, who selected him with the 11th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
The Penguins, Pittsburgh’s NHL team, honored Roethlsiberger during their game against the New York Rangers on Tuesday night. All players ice skated to warm up wearing Roethlisberger’s name and number seven on the back of their jackets. The tributes continued, as the now-retired quarterback brought down the ceremonial puck before the game.

Roethlisberger even slipped back to try and pass a puck’s ball.
During his nearly two-decade career in Steel City, Roethlsiberger threw for 64,088 yards, 418 touchdowns and 211 interceptions. He drove the Steelers to the Super Bowl three times during his tenure, and brought back two Lombardy trophies.
The Steelers entered their first season without a Roethlisberger on the depth-of-center chart. Although the team had Mason Rudolph on contract, they actually signed Mitchell Trubisky, the former second overall pick for the Chicago Bears in 2017.
Despite the fact that Trubisky has been signed to a two-year contract, the team has been spotted exploring the best quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class. But, with the team retaining the 20th pick, and may have to trade for owner Willis or Kenny Pickett if those are the prospects they like.
While the Steelers try to find a replacement for him in the long run, Penguins honored Roethlisberger at the PPG Paints Arena.
