With all the different highly-anticipated projects leading to major delays over the past couple of years, it’s a relatively small setback, as Ewan McGregor himself delivered the message through a video, where he also revealed the good news that when the series premieres, fans will be able to Watch the first two episodes. With may 25th anniversary of the premiere of the movie Star Wars: A New Hopeseemed like an obvious choice to premiere the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on that date, leaving viewers wondering why such a delay occurred in the first place.
One possibility is that while the previous Marvel and Star Wars series debuted on Friday initially, Loki helped usher in a new paradigm of such shows that debuts Wednesday. Looking at the timeline for the premiere of Obi Wanalong with the upcoming slate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series, it’s possible Disney+ will want to break up its content so Marvel can still release new shows on Wednesdays, while Obi Wan Could premiere on Friday.
Another possibility is that with Star Wars Celebration taking place on the same weekend, there is a marketing event associated with the first appearance of the episodes, which could allow fans to watch the first two episodes in a huge group, as opposed to the series that will start soon before the event kicks off. Disney+ has yet to confirm whether all Obi-Wan Kenobi episodes will air on Fridays, or if this is a unique event.
The interesting thing is that May 27 will be the premiere date for the fourth season of Weird thingsensuring fans have plenty of content this weekend.
