Google has added a “Privacy Guide” to Chrome, coming soon

Google is adding a ‘Privacy Guide’ to its Chrome browser. The guide will begin rolling out to M100 Chrome desktop users in the coming weeks and is intended to provide a better understanding of the privacy settings on the browser.

In a blog post, Google notes that the guide was developed by the Google Safety Engineering Center (GSEC), and this is a step-by-step guided tour of some of the privacy and security controls found in Chrome. This is designed to allow Chrome users to make and manage the right privacy-related selections from one place.

The post adds that when users navigate through the Privacy Guide, they will “learn about the benefits, trade-offs, and privacy implications of each setting so you can easily understand what happens when you turn a particular setting on or off.”

Initially, the Privacy Guide will include controls for cookies, history syncing, safe browsing, and making your searches and browsing better. Based on feedback from the community, Google will work on more settings for the guide over time.

The Privacy Guide will be visible as a new card in the “Privacy and Security” tab in Chrome’s settings. One can access the settings by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner of your browser. Google also says that even if the user is unable to do a full tour for the privacy guide, there is no need to worry. All changes are saved along the way, and one can go back and start where they left off.
