Karl Urban Tease Butcher crosses the line with a new superpower

The main component of boys Season 3 confirmed by the series’ first trailer that rocked the series in its prime, revealing that Billy Butcher of Karl Urban would not only take Compound V but gain superpowers as a result. Fans of the original comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson will know that Butcher and his team weren’t so strongly supported from the start it was a huge change the show made, but now Butcher taking Compound V and acquiring other superpowers is another difference between the source material and the series. He talks in a new interview Urban opens about the change this will bring to Butcher for the show and how he gets to the core of the series.

“Here’s the dilemma: Did Butcher become a superhero or a supervillain?” Urban said to Entertainment Weekly. “In order to defeat the monster, do you become the monster? And I think one of the great things about this season is that every character faces that choice. How far are they willing to go? What line are they willing to cross? In order to achieve what they want to achieve? For all characters in the show, it creates conflict and it’s fun to see who ends up on which side.”

trailer for boys Season 3 shows The Butcher with a thermal vision just like the Homelander, as well as a power-up where a clip of him can be seen actually hitting the Vought-owned Champion inside a parking lot. This moment likely is a red herring and a dream sequence, but taking Butcher Compound V to get his final revenge on Homelander seems to fit right in with the character and something that opens up whole new horizons for the TV series.

“There is definitely a lot of craziness,” series creator Eric Kripke previously explained in an interview with TV Guide Magazine’s Sci-Fi & Fantasy Special Collector’s Issue about the new season. “It’s no secret that we’re doing an episode about ‘Herogasm’ from the comics, which is a huge superhero orgy. And we’re doing something in the first episode that I think is definitely the craziest thing we’ve ever done off… and it might be one of the craziest things ever. Anyone ever withdraw.”
