Detroit Tigers third baseman, Jimer Candelario, has been called for an illegal slip against the White Sox. Tigers fans were not happy after the call.
Candelario slipped into second base in earnest in an effort to break Miguel Cabrera’s double-play ball on opening day. Instead, the referee asked Cabrera to go out automatically, claiming Candelario had obstructed a throw of what was just an ejection chip.
The Tigers defied the play, assuming Candelario was at base and went to land early, but the call was upheld.
It was also the first time fans had heard the judges announce a call right after a challenge.
Tigers fans were upset after the call, assuming Candelario’s actions were legal and within his rights as a primary runner. However, White Sox fans are tired of More injuries to their list.
White Sox worried about injuries, slipping Khymer Candelario
Candelario’s slice didn’t hurt anyone, but given that Lucas Giolito had already left the game with what could be a very serious tummy problem, White Sox fans were honestly by themselves.
From the Tigers’ perspective, Candelario didn’t necessarily do anything wrong. He was a referee judge, and by calling the interference at second base, Omp said he took a round of the board in what proved to be a close game.
