Kernel sources for OnePlus 10 Pro are now available

Finally, OnePlus brought out the global version of the OnePlus 10 Pro, but the company slowed down a bit and didn’t provide us with kernel sources right after launch. If you’ve already managed to score one yourself for a fix, we’ve got good news for you. To facilitate custom development, the Chinese manufacturer has now released kernel sources for OnePlus 10 Pro.

Now, of course, every smartphone manufacturer that ships an Android device is obligated to release their kernel sources because Linux kernel is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2. However, many OEMs are delaying the release of their kernel sources for any reason. However, OnePlus aims to publish it as soon as possible. The OnePlus 9 series kernel sources were released within two weeks of the global launch last year. It’s good to see that the company is continuing this trend with the OnePlus 10 Pro as well.

The OnePlus 10 Pro is OnePlus’ latest and greatest flagship smartphone, and it brings together some of the best performing hardware in one package. It has a great chipset, good camera and super fast charging inside a unique design.

The kernel source code can be found in the GitHub link below. The version is compatible with firmware version A.10, although a newer version of OxygenOS is already being released worldwide. Notably, the Dirty Pipe vulnerability has not been mitigated in this release.

If you are looking for seller’s units, these components can be found in the file separate github repo.

Open source code won’t do you much if you’re not a developer, but the result of making that code available can be. Without it, developing custom AOSP-based ROMs like LineageOS would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the device. Kernel sources are also necessary to enable proper TWRP builds. Now that sources are available, the OnePlus 10 Pro’s aftermarket development landscape should be filled with more activity in the near future, with perhaps better alternatives for users who want to migrate away from the ColorOS-inspired OxygenOS skin.
