Spirit Halloween with Christopher Lloyd opening this year

With all the toy-related movies (just look at Emily V. Gordon and John M. Choo’s Play-Doh, Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, and the Paramount franchise ‘Transformers’), Halloween fans haven’t been served — until now.

Spirit Halloween, the iconic fashion and hardware store with 1,425 locations across North America, has teamed up with Strike Back Studios, Hideout Pictures and Particular Crowd for the feature-length family movie “Spirit Halloween.”

The project has been billed as a family/children’s adventure movie, starring Christopher Lloyd “Back to the Future’s” and “She’s All That” star Rachel Lee Cook, as well as some new faces.

“When a new Spirit Halloween store appears in an abandoned mall, three middle school friends who think they’re over trick-or-treating dare to spend the night locked inside the store on Halloween night,” the slogan reads. “But they soon discover that the store is haunted by an angry evil spirit that possesses the spooky animated characters. The kids embark on an exciting and frightening adventure in order to survive the night and avoid getting caught.”

Joins Lloyd and Cook Donovan Cullan (“Zoe”), Dylan Frankel (“Raven’s House”), Jaden Smith (“Blue Bloods”), and Marisa Reyes (“Raven’s House”)

Marla Gibbs (El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie) is also slated to star in the film directed by David Poag, marking his directorial debut. Billy Bates wrote the script.

Filming for Spirit Halloween is now complete, with production aiming for a release in October 2022.

“One of the reasons I was immediately associated with the script is that it was so inspired by some of my favorite children’s adventure films that originated from The Goonies, Gremlins, ‘Monster Squad’ and many other great films made by Amblin Entertainment,” said Noor Ahmed, President of Strike Back Studios.

Ahmed will produce Spirit Halloween with Shannon Hutchins. Tomás’ Yanelevich, Peter Bevan, Mariana Sanjurjo and Clay Epstein are executive producers.

The production, which has a promotional partnership with Spirit Halloween, is a collaboration between Hideout Pictures (“Old Henry”) and the original Particular Crowd WarnerMedia Latin America jointly with Film Mode Entertainment (“As They Made Us”).

Strike Back Studios and Hideout Pictures also recently collaborated on “Asleep in My Palm,” starring Tim Blake Nelson, which concluded in February.
