Organized Crime’s Mykelti Williamson talks about creating a lovable villain and sparks a heated confrontation

The world of Law & Order: Organized Crime is full of interesting factions, all with their own distinct motives. The same is true of Marcy Keelers, who is currently led by the steering hand of Preston Webb, played by the talented Mylti Williamson. While Webb has altruistic goals, the process of achieving them is sometimes messy and complicated, and watching Webb walk the tightrope between these two sides of the road is part of what makes him so compelling. ComicBook.com had a chance to talk to Williamson about the role as well as the excitement of the upcoming Heat-style confrontation and an SVU character he’d like to screen share over in a crossover with.

Williamson has played a bevy of different characters from all walks of life over the course of his career, so I was curious what drew him to the Preston Webb character. For Williamson, it’s fun to play a villain, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice depth and conflict. It is also fun to play someone who is not like you in real life.

“I think one of the things that people enjoy in filmmaking is if you drive a fast car, you don’t get a speeding ticket, and you can just break fantasy rules in the art world. You know? And so it’s fun to play a guy, I wouldn’t I’d never want to be like him. Because the cool thing about me was, with this Preston Webb character, that nobody’s everything, everything is good. Nobody is bad,” Williamson said. “So when you see the typical bad guy, it’s all bad, it’s all terrible, and it’s not right, it’s not right. And so, we’re creating conflict within the heart of the audience, because these are the people that you really love, and you can see that they are capable of love and doing work Good. But oh my God, they are involved in this secret underworld.”

“But the public hopes that one day they will get out of it and walk away from it and build the next Amazon or Walmart, because that’s what they want to do is get legit, and they’re doing a good job,” Williamson said. “They build churches, they build health clinics, they provide schools with computers and books, They pay teachers’ salaries to children’s health. And so, you know they want to do a good job. They just want to get to a place where they can get away from a life of crime. This is the ticking clock for the audience. Will they do that? It’s so much fun to be on that trip. “

Williamson works perfectly with the cast, and as well as organized crime mainstays Christopher Meloni and Danielle Truett, new additions like Denis Leary and Jennifer Beals have joined in the fun, making for a totally entertaining behind-the-scenes experience.

“Yeah, I am. I had a great time with Jennifer. Denise Leary. I’ve been a fan of Leary for a long time. Leary is one of my crazy crazy friends. He’s so creative, but uniquely imaginative. You just don’t see it,” said Williamson. Things are coming and he does.” “Then I’ve worked with Chris Meloni before, but he’s great in that role. I’ve also worked with Danielle Truett, and she’s amazing, just like Chris, in everything she does. And so, it’s good to have the people who care and want to do the best work possible and not do things that don’t work. We sit there, we rewrite it, we work with the writer, and with the director, we remake it. And Chris Meloni is one of the giants in doing so. I mean, he can look at a scene and then take it to the next level, in a matter of moments. It really is a lot of fun.”

Speaking of Truitt, fans anticipate the final showdown between her and Webb, up until this point they’ve been making more chess moves around each other than a head-to-head confrontation. When they collide, it will be something memorable, and fans of a certain classic scene in HEAT will love what comes on the road.

“Bill is going after Webb. She can’t wait to bring him down, but she has no idea what these remaining repercussions will be,” Williamson said. “There’s a moment coming, where Webb and Bell are actually heart to heart. It’s almost like in Heat. Al Pacino and Robert De Niro end up having a conversation where they talk about things, but you get the point. That’s what you’ll see coming between Bell and Webb. Also between Webb and Stabler, where they talk about things. They don’t really want to have to take each other out, but if that happens, everyone plans to come home alive.”

Another element that fans have been waiting to see completely unravel is the relationship between Webb and Nova, with Nova working undercover for Bell right under his nose. We asked what he might be teased about this revelation and the eventual ramifications, and that can be good when you see the switch turned completely in Webb.

“Well, keep in mind that Webb absolutely loves Nova, which he thinks is Nova. He knows her name is Carmen, but he has no idea that she’s in disguise. And he loves her very much and he taught her a lot,” Williamson said. “She actually knows Webb’s heart, and that’s what makes her so conflicted. Because she knows it won’t be long before he walks away from this life and starts doing things that benefit society. And she knows that, too.”

“So, I’m not going to tell you what that moment looked like when it came to fruition, but it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to play,” Williamson said. “Because I actually looked at Nona Parker as…she’s one of my daughters in the industry. She’s the same age as my daughters. She’s as cute as my daughters, she’s talented, like my daughters. And he made it easy for me. A web character just to fall in love with her.” and protect her.”

Now, we couldn’t let him go without asking about the eventual transition to Law & Order: SVU or the newly revived Law & Order series. Williamson is totally open to the possibility, and if that happens, he’ll want to get some time with a certain fin Tutula.

I’m open to it. I’ll just say it. It’s been mentioned, but I’m open to it. Ice-T and I went to high school together, so we’ve known each other for a long time. And I haven’t seen him in years,” Williamson said. Phone the whole time, but I haven’t seen him physically in a few years. Thus, this will be a great reunion if Webb ventures into the world of SVU.”

You can watch the next chapter of Webb’s story in Law & Order: Organized Crime, which airs on NBC tonight at 9 p.m. CST.
