How Bristol Thermal Dirt Races Will Determine NASCAR Qualifying Lineup

NASCAR returns to Bristol for the dirt race, but how will it use the temperatures to determine the qualifying line-up for the race?

Given the relative success of the Bristol dirt race in 2021, NASCAR has once again decided to cover the short track and let things falter.

Although Joey Logano emerged as the winner 12 months ago, things didn’t go smoothly in his first NASCAR Cup dirt race in nearly 50 years.

For example, the side-by-side reboot was abandoned midway through the race, with a single file adopted to smooth things over.

In addition, a planned series of heat races on Bristol’s dirt track were postponed after heavy rain left the track more like a mud bath than to the racetrack.

However, the 2022 NASCAR qualifying heat races in Bristol dirt are back – and will be held.

NASCAR Bristol heat races

By the time of the qualifying races, the teams and drivers will already have a ton of dirt training.

The 36 rental cars are on the race entry list – so there are no slots open.

There will be four NASCAR Bristol heat races – with each car customized to one – meaning there are nine races in each.

It will last for 15 spins – with the starting points placed randomly by the team in the order of the owner’s points.

In their respective qualifiers, drivers will earn points for their final position – from 10 points to 2 points for ninth place.

A point will also be added for each pass they make from the starting position. Nothing will be lost because of his transgression.

After all NASCAR Bristol heat races, points will be counted, with whoever has the most starts in first place and so on.

What is dirt?

It’s not easy to turn concrete Bristol into a dirt track.

At the bottom is sawdust, then a layer of dirt from Bristol’s first dirt-racing attempts since the early 2000s.

Above this dirt from the camp.

The highest layer is Bluff City Red Tennessee Clay.

The cars wouldn’t run on their traditional slick tires, and instead Goodyear rubber produced the tread specifically.
