The weekend update with Colin Jost and Michael Che kicked off this week with a gag about President Joe Biden’s approval rating, coming in at 33% and noting that his rating is half that of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Rotten Tomatoes. The video game sequel scored 67% on the review aggregator. Just Zinger added another though as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 features the characters Tails and Knuckles, who happen to have the same name as two members of the gang that Joe Biden claimed to have fought in the 1960s. Pop culture didn’t end there with Grimace and x coming in as well.
In our review of the film, ComicBook.com’s Tanner Deadmon gave the movie aa 3.5 out of 5, writing, “Not every joke, but even the ones you miss still add to Sonic’s goofy charm. The way forward for Sonic and his friends is clear – and Elba’s performance as Knuckles.” It’s a big green check for a live-action series that once seemed questionable — but the human characters and their roles need to be sorted out before the next movie.”
Saturday Night Live Viewers loved Sonic’s jokes and thought this week’s update from Che and Jost was the best in a while. Check out the feedback below.
