Over a decade ago, the world of DC Comics profoundly changed with the launch of flash point, an event that eventually established the New 52 Continuity. The majority of the case concerns Thomas Wayne, who awakens to discover that he is still in the Flashpoint universe, even after Barry Allen has “reset” things while flash point. Over the course of the affair, Thomas begins to question whether his reality is real, or the machinations of some super-villains, and searches for a way to turn things around again. This leads him to search for a surprising face – Barry Allen, who is just an ordinary crime lab technician in Central City. Thomas tracks Barry, who does not recognize or believe any of the history that Thomas reveals to him, which leads Thomas to intimidate and kidnap him.
Barry wakes up strapped to the device that Thomas and Earth-Prime Barry used in Flashpoint, hoping to use it to give Barry his powers. This eventually proves useless, as the chemical compounds that would have replicated Barry’s powers are broken down and spilled by an invisible character, and Barry is electrocuted as a result.
This isn’t the only carnage in this case, as Harvey Dent dies shortly after in a violent explosion, as does the man who appears to be a scavenger, who initially destroys the chemicals in Thomas for Atlantis’ experiment. However, the turning point of Barry’s dying on Earth flash point – not in such a brutal way – is a unique way to set the tone for the series.
