Entertainment Weekly editor-in-chief, Mary Margaret, graduated a year later

A spokesperson for Dotdash Meredith said Mary Margaret has stepped down as editor-in-chief of Entertainment Weekly and will be replaced by EW executive editor Patrick Gomez, who has been named general manager.

The news comes after EW published its final print edition last month, as part of Dotdash Meredith’s decision to halt print editions for six of its titles, including EW and InStyle. Electronic warfare will continue as a digital port only.

Gomez oversaw television and music coverage at EW for a year, before serving as editor-in-chief for The AV Club and working for a decade at EW’s sister publication, People.

Leah Wehr, president of Dotdash Meredith’s Entertainment Group, said in a statement to diverse. “His strong digital expertise, deep knowledge of entertainment and celebrity news, and prowess in popular culture make him the perfect person to lead the next chapter of digital growth.”

Prior to her year at EW, Margaret worked at sales software platform HubSpot as Senior Director of Product Marketing, after leading product content strategy teams for Facebook entertainment products and serving as Editorial Director at Roku. She has also worked as a journalist for People, Parade and Newsweek’s London’s Bureau.

She will be moving from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas with her family.

“I would like to thank Mary Margaret for her leadership during a pivotal period in the brand’s history and bringing over a decade of in-house entertainment expertise, commercial acumen and multimedia knowledge to continue EW’s legacy as a leading authority in entertainment,” Weyer said.

Margaret was EW’s first female EIC in its 32-year history, following previous EICs including JD Heyman, Henry Goldblatt, Matt Bean, Jess Cagle and Rick Tetzeli. It entered a challenging landscape for publishing, months after Heyman abruptly left after complaints from hostile workplace employees, and only two years after the magazine switched to a monthly format, despite keeping its name.

EW’s parent company, Meredith, was acquired in December by Dotdash, IAC’s digital publishing arm, Barry Diller Holdings. The value of the cash deal was estimated at about $2.7 billion.
