PlayStation DualSense controllers can now be updated without PS5

The PlayStation DualSense controller was naturally designed with the PlayStation 5 in mind to not only compliment its aesthetics but also to use features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers with console games, but you don’t need the controller itself to use the controller. It works well on PC across platforms like Steam as it has been getting updates constantly since its launch, and now, it’s even easier to use on those non-PlayStation platforms since you no longer need a PlayStation 5 console to update its firmware thanks to a new app .

Sony announced the release of the “Firmware Updater for DualSense Wireless Controller” app this week on social media with a page set up on the PlayStation website for those who want to update the DualSense controller without connecting it to the PlayStation 5. In order to do so. So, just download the above-mentioned application and save it somewhere on your computer before running the installation and then the application itself just as you would any other program.

Once the application itself is set up, you will need a USB cable to connect the DualSense controller to your computer. A few onscreen instructions should walk you through the rest of the laissez-faire process while your DualSense Controller is updated to ensure that its features remain the same while you use it with your PC, mobile gaming, or whatever else you might do with it.

One downside of this method is if you have to constantly check the updater app to see if a new firmware update has been released for your DualSense Controller. By way of comparison, the PlayStation 5 will naturally notify you whenever it’s available once you connect your console to the console, but you’ll have to open the app itself to check for updates if you keep that console primarily for PC use. For this reason, it’s best to keep an eye on console updates from PlayStation social media or elsewhere so you know when it’s time to download a new update.

Sony’s new DualSense app can be downloaded Here if you think you need it for your console.
