“The following events are based on a set of lies” revealed.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste (“Boxing Day”), Alistair Petrie (“Sex Education”) and Romula Garay (“The Clock”) join the BBC drama series The Following Are Based on a Lies Set.

The cast was concluded by Rebecca Staton (“Raised by Wolves”), Derek Jacobi (“Last Tango in Halifax”), Julian Barratt (“The Mighty Boosh”), Carl Johnson (“Hot Fuzz”), and Ellie Haddington (“Enola Holmes”).

Robbie McKillop (“Guilt”) and Nicole Charles (“Hair Power: Me and My Afro”) will split directing duties on the series, which was created and written by Penelope Skinner and Ginny Skinner.

Production of the series, which will be distributed internationally by BBC Studios, has already begun.

“This is the story of two very different women who have one thing in common; a mysterious, funny, and unpredictable thriller about three fantastic characters trapped in an intertwined triangle of complex half-truths and lies of epic proportions,” the headline reads.

The series is produced by sister for BBC One, executive produced by Naomi de Beer (“The Force”), Lydia Hampson (“Fleipage”), and director of development Alice Tyler (“Baby”). Georgie Fallon (“Dalgliesh”) produces for Sister along with Penelope Skinner and Ginny Skinner. Joe McClellan is executive producer for the BBC and Nawfal Faydallah is executive director.

“We could not be happier that, with the support and encouragement of experts from Sister, this project has attracted a talented group of collaborators to fruition,” said Penelope Skinner and Jenny Skinner. “With the insightful and creative guidance of Robbie McKillop and Nicole Charles alongside an absolute dream cast, including stars such as Marianne Jean Baptiste, Rebecca Staton and Alistair Petrie, we are so proud that this show has found a home on the BBC.”

McClellan added: “The BBC is thrilled to begin production on ‘The Next Events Based on a Bunch of Lies’ with such an amazing cast and illustrious Sister production team. Benny and Jenny wrote an incredibly entertaining show that highlights how vulnerable we are all to modern hustlers, and how they are everywhere and hiding in plain sight.”
