The Charlotte Hornets make the shocking decision to fire James Borrego

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski News broke late Friday morning about Borrego’s dismissal.

This move is clearly all about Borrego’s inability to accomplish in a win or go home scenario in back-to-back tournaments.

Charlotte Hornets sacked former coach James Borrego after four seasons

The only way this move would make sense is if Jordan believed he could bring in someone better than one of Greg Popovich’s most prominent disciples. Was there a ceiling with Borrego leading this team? Yes, but they are still a year or two away from getting there. They may have been blown away in the No.9 vs. No.10 match, but that contest was where their Atlanta Hawks rival.

What made the Hornets so trendy was that they had a budding star in the lamillo ball. He has a better chance of long-term success in Charlotte than Kimba Walker. Paul could be the most talented player to star in the Hornets since Larry Johnson or Alonzo Morning in the early 1990s. Although still a young player, Paul is a shining beacon of hope on the hardwoods of the Hornets.

In the end, Borrego will not be out of work for long. He’s a proven head coach and he could re-emerge as a recurring elsewhere. If he needs to work as a flight assistant for a year or two, these opportunities will come to him easily. As for the Hornets, they should appoint the next Head of Training. Otherwise, they may end up costing them their star marketable player.

Just when everyone was dysfunctional despite the Hornets, they fired their coach.
