The New York Jets could shock their fan base with the fourth pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The New York Jets are one of two teams to hold a top 10 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. This gives the team the chance to choose two future rookies and future pros. Well, there is only one player associated with the Jets as of Monday, April 25th.
Jordan Raanan, ESPN’s correspondent for the New York Giants, writes that one player who could be locked into the top 10 and likely to slip into the top five is Florida State’s rushing Jermaine Johnson. Conor Hughes, a New York Jets reporter for The Athletic, shared Raanan’s tweet and said, “Watch the planes at 4.”
Hughes then clarified in a separate tweet that multiple sources said that team and general manager Joe Douglas “loves” Johnson, more than Oregon’s daredevil Cayvonne Tibodox.
Jets could shock the world with their No. 4 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft
Hughes wasn’t the only one who shared this information. The Athletic’s NFL analyst Dane Brugler responded to Hughes’ tweet, saying that many in the NFL think Johnson has a better chance of finishing fourth overall over Tibodo.
Johnson is one of the best passers in the draft this year, so it’s not necessarily shocking to hear that. Each team has its own preference for what the player wants. It remains to be seen if Johnson will actually be chosen as fourth.
Last season, Johnson moved to Florida for his senior year. Johnson recorded 70 total tackles (17.5 for a loss), 11.5 sacks, 2 forced hold and 1 recovery.
NFL fans will get their answer on what the Jets will do with picks 4 and 10, as well as where Johnson will spend the start of his professional career, on Thursday, April 28 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
