Did you lose your iPhone? Here’s how to prevent thieves from accessing
1. Turn off Control Center and USB accessories when they are locked
The Control Center is one of my favorite iPhone tools — even when it’s locked, it allows me to access the basic functions of my phone. However, a thief can use this to his advantage by using the Control Center to turn your iPhone into airplane mode and turn off its internet connection, so those responsible for security might want to turn it off. Turning off USB accessories also stops any nefarious connectivity devices being used on the phone while it is locked to control it and even unlock it.
To disable Control Center and USB accessories when locked, go to SettingsThen Face ID & Passcode. Enter your passcode and scroll down to Allow access when locked. switch out Control Center And USB accessories.
2. Enable “Erase data” after 10 unsuccessful attempts to enter the passcode
With Erase Data enabled, after 10 unsuccessful attempts to enter a password, your phone will be completely erased, which means that nothing sensitive can be viewed on it or shared from it. With iCloud Backup (which backs up every 24 hours), a found or replacement iPhone can then be restored to exactly what it was with little data loss, so you’ll need to turn this on before enabling Erase Data. If you don’t use iCloud Back Up and/or don’t have enough iCloud storage space for a full backup, leave the Erase Data feature turned off.
First, turn on iCloud backup. go to Settingsthen tap your name.
Select iCloud, then tap iCloud Backup. Turn on iCloud Backup.
After that, go to settings, Then Face ID & Passcode. Enter your passcode and scroll down to erase data and run it.
3. Enable Find My iPhone, Find My Network and Send Last Location
Find My iPhone lets you remotely track and lock or erase your iPhone if it gets stolen or lost, while Find My Network lets you track a phone even when it’s offline (for example, in Airplane mode), or After turning it off. Send Last Location to Apple automatically sends your iPhone’s location once the battery is too low. These features mean that your phone is likely to be found even if a thief turns the device off, so it’s best to turn it on.
go to Settingstap on your name, then select find. Choose Find my iPhoneThen toggle on All three settings.
Obviously, these features won’t prevent the grief of losing the brand new iPhone 13 Pro Max, but they may help prevent any worry that you’ll miss out on anything more important.
