Kenneth Tsang, actor James Bond and Rush Hour 2, dead at 86

Kenneth Tsang, star of both the James Bond series and Rush Hour 2, has died at the age of 86. Fans in North America will remember his role as Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. His role in Die Another Day as a general will also evoke some positive emotions. The South China Morning Newspaper Reports said Tsang was found in his hotel room after a daily quarantine check failed. The actor was traveling in Singapore and had to self-quarantine again at the Kowloon Hotel. Hong Kong has a mandatory post-travel quarantine policy. SCMP notes that the actor recently tested negative for COVID-19 yesterday. Therefore, the cause of death is unknown at this time. Hong Kong is currently riddled with a spike in Covid cases and that means 10 days in an official hotel before you can travel freely. It’s sad to hear that the actor who always found work is no longer with us. Cang had a lot of credits to his name.

Pop-up Asian Cinema in Chicago presented Tsang with a Career Achievement Award in 2019. Reel Chicago interviewed him for the honor and shared some of his tips with young actors.

“Learn as much as you can and live as much as you can. Because life is an experience. (It) will enrich your performance…You have to know what hunger is,” he explained. “You have to know what it’s cold like. In Hong Kong, in America, let’s say, you don’t feel that much. Don’t worry about your next meal. Yes? But you have to try it. Try. So you live.”

Earlier in that conversation, the longtime actor explained the difference between Hollywood then and now. It seems like no matter what, being aware of trends and adapting is good advice for anyone in any field.

“It’s not a question of what I like. It’s a question of how closely I follow. Even in Hollywood, right? I mean, no more, like, White House. It’s different. No more Humphrey Bogart,” Tsang explained. (Now) Tom Cruise. yes? You have to be more contemporary. right? You have to go with the current trends. In other words, you change. and change. I continue. You evolve. You evolve. And trying to work with modern people.”

Our prayers and prayers are with his family at this time.
