Android 13 Beta 1 on Pixel 6 Pro brings face unlock settings

But Face Unlock is not activated yet

Google’s Pixel 6 series offers a solid hardware and feature-packed software experience, but it’s surprisingly missing a key feature so common on almost all modern smartphones: Face Unlock. However, there is hope that this feature will arrive soon, at least on the Pixel 6 Pro. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that Google has not completely abandoned Face Unlock and that it may arrive in a future update. A recent report indicated that the feature may be rolling out to the June Pixel Feature Drop. Now, some clues about the upcoming Face Unlock feature of the Pixel 6 Pro have surfaced.

As spotted by YouTuber M Brandon Lee of “This Is Tech Today,” Android 13 Beta 1 on the Pixel 6 Pro has added a new face unlock setting – the most concrete evidence yet of the feature’s existence and its imminent arrival. Android 13 Beta 1 adds a user-facing Face Unlock settings page. Although it is hidden and not directly accessible to end users, Mishaal Rahman forced the Settings page to appear on his Pixel 6 Pro phone and shared screenshots showing the setup process.

Unfortunately, the feature isn’t working at the moment, and you can’t set anything up. Interestingly, the Pixel 5 running Android 13 Beta 1 also shows a face unlock reference when you search for “face unlock” in the device settings.

It’s not clear when Google finally plans to roll out the Face Unlock feature in the Pixel 6 Pro. Anyway, this goes well with 9to5Google’s A recent report says the feature is slated to arrive with the Pixel Feature Drop. Since the Pixel 6 Pro doesn’t pack special hardware for face unlock, it will likely rely on the front camera and machine learning to get the job done.
