Microsoft’s official purchase of Activision Blizzard is one step closer to reality

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard appears to be a step closer to becoming a done deal as a pivotal step has been completed. Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard for just $70 billion earlier this year. The news was immediately a landmark move for the gaming industry, as it would be the biggest gaming deal to date and lead to Microsoft owning some of the biggest entertainment franchises known to man. However, the size of the deal has led to some opposition from politicians, players and investors. However, the deal has made tremendous progress as of today.

earlier in the day, Activision confirmed Its shareholders have approved the transaction. The publisher confirmed that 98% of shares voted in favor of the takeover, despite investor pressure on shareholders to vote against the deal. Activision also reiterated that the deal is expected to close by June 30, 2023 if everything is approved. As of now, Activision is continuing its business as usual. Today, developer Infinity Ward released the first teaser for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IIwhich is expected to be one of the biggest games of 2022. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick gave a statement on today’s news.

“Today’s overwhelmingly supportive vote by our shareholders underscores our shared belief that we, along with Microsoft, will be in a better position to create significant value for our players, greater opportunities for our employees, and continue our focus on becoming an inspiring example of a welcoming, respectful and inclusive workplace,” said Kotick.

The deal must now be approved by regulators such as the Federal Trade Commission as the deal will likely face intense scrutiny. As it stands, there seems to be a lot of support for the deal, but it still has a ways to go before it can be considered a guarantee. Only time will tell whether or not it will be successful, but Activision shareholders seem to have a positive view of it.
