Let Steve Smith Sr. know how he’d feel about Baker Mayfield joining the beloved Carolina Panthers in a deal with the Cleveland Browns.
With the exception of the Cleveland Browns ditching former franchisee Baker Mayfield at short notice, Steve Smith Sr. hopes he doesn’t come to the beloved Carolina Panthers.
Smith has been working on coverage of the 2022 NFL Draft for the NFL Network. He recognized that Carolina was looking to be the team that would end up tackling the former first choice overall from Oklahoma. Smith tweeted his inside information, as well as his feeling about Mayfield coming aboard the ship in Charlotte. Let’s just say he’d rather reboot with Sam Darnold in 2022.
Here’s Smith spreading fast when it comes to Mayfield potentially coming up with the Panthers.
Steve Smith Sr. doesn’t want the Carolina Panthers to trade for Baker Mayfield
While there are other teams likely to trade for Mayfield, including the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rumors of the Panthers aren’t quietly disappearing. This is because Carolina is very unstable in the midfield position. All things being equal, Mayfield was the NFL’s best player over Darnold.
With the Panthers passing their quarterback in the first round on Thursday night, they aren’t looking to address the situation with a true franchise tag-holder until at least next year. While everyone but Kenny Pickett remained on the board at the start of the second round, Carolina has time to draft the quarterback this weekend. If the Panthers don’t, they may be looking to trade for Mayfield after all.
Regardless of who the Panthers take this year, this will likely be another tough season for Matt Rolle.
