You might think that knowing how to get water out of your iPhone is superfluous. After all, many of the best phones of recent years offer some degree of water resistance, which means you have nothing to fear if your Apple device drops unexpectedly. Sure, dropping your phone in water isn’t as disastrous as it used to be, but moisture can stay in places like your phone’s speakers.
Fortunately, the iPhone offers an easy way to expel water from its speakers. And all you really need is a third-party solution via the Apple Shortcuts app.
The Water Eject shortcut produces a sound at a frequency that makes your iPhone’s speakers vibrate so that the water is forced out. This is important because even though your iPhone likely offers water resistance — the IP68 rating on current iPhone 13 models means your phone can withstand water up to 6 meters for 30 minutes — you’ll still need to wipe your iPhone after it’s submerged. Also, getting rid of residual moisture from various iPhone ports is not so easy. Essentially, this acronym helps ensure that any submersion, snorkeling, or immersion in the water remains unscathed.
You just need the Shortcuts app, which comes pre-installed on your current iPhones (if it’s not on your phone for any reason, head over to the App Store and Download shortcutswhich works on any device with iOS 12 or later).
Once you put the shortcuts in place, here’s everything you need to do to set up a shortcut that flushes water from your iPhone.
How to get water out of iPhone using Siri shortcut
1. On your iPhone browser, go to Shortcuts Gallery And get Water Eject shortcut by Tapping to get a shortcutfollowed by add shortcut on the next screen.
2. The shortcuts will run and the Water Eject shortcut will join other shortcuts you have stored in the app.
From here, you can activate the shortcut in one of three ways.
Activate Water Eject with Shortcuts app
The most obvious way to activate the Water Eject shortcut is to use the Shortcuts app.
1. Open the shortcut app And Press the water output shortcut. From the menu that appears, Press to start water output.
2. A tone will be played for approximately 15 seconds. At the end, a pop-up message will appear alerting you that water has come out of the speaker.
Activate Water Eject using Siri voice command
If you’d rather save yourself the trouble of running shortcuts and finding the Water Eject shortcut, you can also activate the shortcut with the sound of your voice.
1. Assuming you have set up Hey Siri on your iPhone, simply Say, “Hey Siri, bring out the water,” The Apple Digital Assistant will show the Water Eject menu. Press start water output moving forward.

Activate Water Eject using the home screen icon
You can also put the Water Eject shortcut on your home screen for easy access, assuming you’re the type to drop their phone in water a lot.
1. Press the three-button line in the upper right corner of the water output shortcut; On the next screen Tap the three horizontal bars.
2. Under the Details tab, Select Add to Home Screenthen confirmed by Tapping to add On the next screen
3. The Water Eject shortcut will now appear as an icon on your home screen. You can edit your iPhone home screen to Move the shortcut wherever you want.
