Sam Raimi has been recognized as one of the all-time great filmmakers in the horror genre…but in mind, his connection to Stephen King’s work is surprising. He never did any personal adaptations of King as a director, but did have acting roles in two of them – the 1990s mini-series based on Platform And Gloss. It’s a strange and unexpected history, but it’s worth noting that he never gave up hope that one of the author’s books or stories would ever hit the big screen.
Being a huge Stephen King fan and not getting the chance every day to sit down with Sam Raimi, I felt compelled to ask the director about his date with King this past weekend during L.A. Press Day. Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness. Following my questions about Dr. Strange continuing to wear the Agamotto eye and the relationship between Darkhold and the Necronomicon from evil deadshe changed topics and inquired about King’s books and whether she would be tasked with making the adaptation.
Sam Raimi seemed enthusiastic about the proposal, and noted that while he’d wanted to make edits to Stephen King in the past, the usual problem he’d encountered was that other filmmakers had hit him hard:
The Rob Reiner adaptation that Sam Raimi is definitely referring to misery Nor stand by me Thinking about this possibility makes one’s brain begin to spin. Renner misery It’s unequivocally one of Stephen King’s best films, and I’d go so far as to call it one of the greatest thrillers of all time, but the idea for that story is in Remy’s hands (just two years after making Evil Dead II) is the impetus to find a way to travel across the multiverse and into the parallel reality where this movie was made.
Most fans of Stephen King and Sam Raimi will likely agree that we probably don’t need more cinematic treatments curry And Glosswhere they both actually inspired the sequels and remasters, but his interest in it night shift – A collection of short stories written by King in 1978 – interesting. Many of these horror tales have been adapted, including “Graveyard Shift”, “The Mangler” and “Children of the Corn”, but a large percentage of them have not yet inspired interpretations of live events…
At the moment, Sam Raimi’s Stephen King communication is limited to the aforementioned mini-series versions of Platform And Gloss Both were written by King and directed by Mick Garris. Previously, he plays a villainous agent Randall Flagg (Jamie Sheridan) who faces a horrific end after disobeying the orders of his evil leader:
at GlossConversely, he’s on the good playing side of Gas Station Howie – the man who credited a Snowcat to Dick Halloran (Melvin Van Peebles) as Overlook Hotel chef races through a snowstorm to try to save Danny and Wendy Torrance (Courtland Mead, Rebecca De Mornay ):
Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness It is the first feature film directed by Sam Raimi in nearly a decade (his last film was in 2013 The mighty and mighty Oz), but fans everywhere can hope not only that he’ll make more films in the coming years, but that at least one of them will be based on a Stephen King novel.
