Is Verizon a good carrier for phone deals?
Yes – in fact, Verizon is now ranked second in our best mobile carrier directory. This situation is due to two main factors but mostly due to its speed and coverage.
When we ran tests on LTE speeds, Verizon performed the best. 5G reaches over 70 cities and we’ve seen it deliver 1Gbps download speeds with ease.
Combine Verizon’s extended 5G service with LTE-wide, and that’s pretty comprehensive coverage. Verizon’s overall 5G speeds don’t quite match its competitors — the carrier’s national network isn’t nearly as fast as ultra-wideband — but performance is solid on the carrier.
However, Verizon is by no means an affordable carrier and often one of the most expensive options. You’ll likely find cheaper prices than T-Mobile or maybe even AT&T but its high performance makes up for that cost.
What kind of promotions does Verizon offer?
Trade chart: Verizon has a number of great offers when it comes to phone deals, but the main one is the barter scheme. Verizon can offer you a discount of up to $700 when you trade in a large number of its phones.
However, this is the maximum amount reserved for high-value (i.e. newer and more expensive) devices. But even if you’re trading in a budget phone, you should see a significant drop in the price of your new device.
Verizon recently expanded its commercial scheme to also include phones that are old or damaged (as long as they are free from battery damage). Obviously, this won’t do you much good but it’s good to know if you have a damaged phone.
upgrades: If you are an existing Verizon customer, you will have the option to upgrade. This will give you a number of very big discounts across a large number of phones when you check in. This is limited to unlimited plans and Verizon doesn’t always offer this type of discount, so it’s worth checking when upgrading.

You have to take an unlimited plan, and the “free” part of the deal comes in the form of monthly bill credits, but that’s a great promotion for those who know they’re going to invest in a budget phone.
