EBT Card Balance: When are EBT cash benefits on the card used up?

MAnyone who receives financial support in California does so through Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Cardusing this card used to transfer payments related to CalFresh, CalWORKs, and other food and cash assistance benefits.

However, it’s not always clear when your card will be charged with your latest payment, so we’ll break down the EBT card payment schedule.

What day of the month are payments made to the EBT card?

The first thing to know is that the money sent to EBT cards comes from a range of different schemes, each with their own payment schedules. However, in each case, payments are made near the beginning of each month.

For example, food stamp benefits are paid during the first 10 days of each month and the exact day will depend on your case number. If the last digit of your case number is 1, you will be paid on the first day of the month. If the last digit is 2, it will be the second, and so on, until the 10th day of each month, when those with 0 as the last digit of their status number receive their food stamp benefits.

As for the cash assistance benefits reimbursement, it’s the same, although all of that money is paid within the first three days. If the last digit of your case number is 1, 2 or 3, you will be paid on the first day of the month. If the last digit is 4, 5, 6 or 7, the payment will be made on the second day. And if the last digit is 8, 9 o 0, then the conversion will take place on the third day of the month.

With most EBT card payments, they are made on weekends and holidays.

What to do if your EBT card has not been topped up

There are many reasons why an EBT card may not be filled out the way expected. Usually, it is because some paperwork is not filled out.

If this happens, the best thing to do is to contact your local California Department of Social Services (CDSS) office.
