New 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game in development at Sega

A new 2D entry in Sega’s long-running Sonic the Hedgehog series is said to be in the works right now. At this time, Sega is already preparing for launch Sonic Origins Coming next month, it’s a remastered package for many of the older entries in the Sonic series. And while this is something many longtime fans have been waiting for for some time, it looks like Sega already has another new batch in the oven for some more time.

According to new Report By an insider named Zippo, Sega’s own Sega studio is said to be working on a new 2D entry in the Sonic franchise. If true, it would be the first time in decades that Team Sonic has worked on a Sonic game in this style. The latest 2D Sonic title, sonic maniaIt was developed externally by a number of different studios.

As for the nature of the reported Sonic title, Zippo states that it’s supposed to be closer to the Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush sub-elements that came to the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS in the early 2000s. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are all said to be playable characters in this new game with Zippo stating that the release in 2023 seems likely at this point in time.

So how credible is this report? Well, Zippo is a knowledgeable person who actually has a few fine scoops in the past, especially with regards to Sonic the Hedgehog. Although their track record is not perfect, in recent history, they have had a number of reports regarding Sonic Origins which later proved to be great.
