Chief Product Officer Kayvon Beykpour Said has asked the Twitter CEO to resign

Kayvon Beykpour, head of the Twitter organization that builds the social media app’s core features, said he’s leaving the company after more than seven years.

Twitter is in the midst of a pending $44 billion acquisition by mega billionaire Elon Musk. Bikpur, in announcing his departure, did not mention Musk’s impending power grab as the reason for his exit. Rather he said in a Twitter threadCEO Parag Agrawal asked him to resign.

“The truth is, this wasn’t how and when I imagined leaving Twitter, and it wasn’t my decision,” he wrote. “Parag asked me to leave after he told me he wanted to lead the team in a different direction.”

“While I’m disappointed, I feel solace in a few things: I’m insanely proud of what our collective team has achieved over the past few years, and of my own contribution to this journey,” Bikbor added. The CEO said he was “interrupting his parental leave” to share the news that he was leaving Twitter.

As Bluebird’s General Manager, Beykpour led a team of researchers, designers, engineers, product managers, and customer operations staff. Previously, he led Twitter’s consumer products team and was responsible for defining the company’s product strategy. According to Pickborough, Bluebird Group will be overseen by Jay Sullivan, Twitter’s head of consumer products.

Beykpour joined Twitter after the company’s 2015 acquisition of Periscope, a live video streaming app he co-founded. Twitter closed Periscope in March 2021, and introduced live streaming features into the core app.

Prior to joining Periscope, Beykpour co-founded Terriblyclever Design, a development company that built the first mobile apps for universities such as Stanford University’s iStanford and Duke University’s Duke Mobile University. After Terriblyclever’s acquisition of Blackboard, Kayvon led the company’s mobile division and served on the executive management team for four years.
