BBC host Deborah James enters aged care, pens emotional farewell message for her fans

Deborah James has become a household name in the UK thanks to her work in You and I and Big C Podcast she hosted for BBC Radio about her struggle with bowel cancer. She was responsible for spreading awareness about bowel cancer, and raising funds to support its fight. Now, she’s revealed to fans that she’s entered aged care, and she did so in an emotional message on social media.

The podcaster and journalist has been open about the different stages in her journey with cancer InstagramShe often smiles despite her difficult circumstances. In May, she shared the message that she “never wanted to write” after they “tried everything” and that her body “simply doesn’t play ball”. I participated:

I have discontinued my active care and have now moved to hospice in home care, with my wonderful family around me and focus on making sure I am not in pain and spending time with them. Nobody knows how much I have left but I am unable to walk, I sleep most days, and most of the things I have taken for granted are false dreams. I know we’ve gone all out without turning it over. But even with all the innovative cancer drugs in the world or some new magical hack, my body just can’t go on anymore.
