Rising Steelers’ Kenny Beckett won’t have to look for a mentor because the man who will replace him, Ben Roethlisberger, is ready for the role.
Quarterback mentorship was a hot issue in the 2022 season after Ryan Tanehill stated he didn’t think his job was to be a mentor to owner Willis in the third-round selection of the Titans. This is a position, however, that wouldn’t be an issue with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Naturally, the Steelers turn the page on Ben Roethlisberger’s dismissal of his franchise following his retirement. Part of that included selecting Kenny Beckett in the first round of this year’s draft. And while we haven’t gotten a word from Mitchell Trubesky and Mason Rudolph, the other two high-profile callers on the list, it looks like Big Ben is ready to be a milestone.
When asked what role Roethlisberger played early in his career, Beckett was very flattering and gave the impression that the future Hall of Famer was happy to be a part of his early development.
Ben Roethlisberger is happy to mentor Kenny Beckett with the Steelers
This must be music to the ears of Steelers fans.
Although we saw a sharp drop in what Roethlisberger was able to achieve in his final two years in Pittsburgh, there’s no denying that he knows what it takes to excel in the NFL and in the City of Steel. So not only does Beckett having that as a resource but also seems eager to take advantage of that and estimate the time of Big Ben, that’s a great sign.
Beckett has an undeniable chance of becoming a legend in Pittsburgh after staying at home where he played college football. With Roethlisberger in his corner and guiding when needed, the likelihood of that definitely increases.
