Batman #125 will be released in July, and artist Jorge Jimenez (Justice League, Super Sonsand writer Chip ZdarskyrecklessAnd Spider-Man: A Life StoryTake the reins of The Dark Knight Detective and begin a whole new experience on a DC Comics character. With about two months left before the issue is published, DC has released a preview of the first five pages of the series, which already includes some of the popular Batman lines. The new series will also see Tim Drake return to Robin’s mantle, partnering with the Caped Crusader, something Zdarsky says has been central to his approach to the character.
“Tim, in my opinion, is the Robin who worked his butt off to be Robin,” he said. “Not to say others haven’t, but it has been important to Tim from the start. Bruce respects his work very much, even if he doesn’t show it all the time, and is proud of the man he has become. And Tim will always be Robin who cares most about Batman’s mental state.” Zdarsky also confirmed that some of the Batman mini-series Batman: The Knight will be ported over to his new on-going comic, adding, “It was really nice to be able to explore the two time periods almost simultaneously.”
“When DC approached me to write Batman, I immediately thought of things that could really challenge the character mentally, physically, and in terms of his relationships,” Zdarsky previously told ComicBook.com about the series. “Failsafe is his own doomsday. When I started plotting the story, I got really excited about where the title could take….the past few years have been a lot of Batman alone, with many (too many) Robins, etc. That’s in his flair. But I really wanted to highlight the ‘Batman and Robin’ side of the characters while keeping the darker feel we’re striving for. Tim Drake is my favorite, and being able to highlight it here was a lot of fun.”
