Steven Spielberg refused to direct Jaws 2 after shocking – ‘I was shivering’ | movies | entertainment

When Steven Spielberg signed a contract with Universal Pictures to film Jaws, he didn’t expect it to change his life—in more ways than one. The stunning film was based on the 1974 novel of the same name and won three Oscars – Best Film Editing, Best Original Dramatic Score, and Best Sound.

Jaws had a relatively slim budget of $9 million, but grossed over $470 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film of the year. Her huge success launched Spielberg’s career that continues to this day. But shortly after Jaws was released in cinemas, the American director knew something was wrong.

Filming Jaws wrapped up with an amazing amount of drama.

Spielberg’s filming was constantly delayed, pushing the film’s wrap date back by 100 days—a fact the studio wasn’t happy with. Before long, they were making calls to Spielberg to ask what was going on.

These issues were caused by a number of issues, including the constant malfunction of the giant robotic shark that was being used as the original creature.

On a more serious level, the actors – including Richard Dreyfus – often suffered from seasickness while filming on the water, and the screenwriter, Carl Gottlieb, was “almost decapitated” by the propellers of the film’s filming boat, Orca. The boat itself also began to sink with all the actors on board.

Needless to say, Spielberg was under a lot of pressure while filming Jaws.

Dozens of 12-hour days later, Jaws wrapped up the film’s success history. But the shock of the film did not stop there for the now legendary director.

When the studio began looking to produce Jaws 2 in 1978, Spielberg did not sign a comeback contract. Years later, he admitted: “[I didn’t come back for the Jaws sequels] Because making the first movie was a nightmare. There were countless problems with the shark and shooting was impossible. I thought my career was over because no one had ever shot a movie for 100 days on schedule.”

He added that despite the film’s success, he “never wanted to go near water again.”

The star was even mentally injured from work.

Spielberg opened up about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during an interview with EW in 2016. He said, “I used to go out [onto the water] For a few years after I made the movie Overcoming PTSD. I was going to work through shocking myself, because it was painful [and] Sitting in this boat alone for hours, just working through “” I was shivering. “

He also gave interviews in which he said the supplements were “just a cheap scam.” He added that he had already released “The Ultimate Shark Movie”, so why would he shoot anything else?

Spielberg said years later that his fear of returning to the water was the real reason for his reluctance to return. “I would have done the second part if I hadn’t spent such a terrible time at sea in the first movie,” he said.

But despite the horrific condition Spielberg left, he was ultimately grateful to Jaws. Spielberg explained, “The experience gave me complete freedom for the rest of my career… The amount of success the movie had just had given me a final story, it gave me the opportunity to tell my own stories.”

Even without Spielberg to lead Jaws 2, the sequel is still very successful.

Jaws 2 doubled the original film’s budget by $20 million. However, the box office comeback wasn’t quite as spectacular as Jaws. Jaws 2 grossed $208 million in cinemas, but it was enough revenue to spark more sequels.

Five years later, in 1983, Jaws 3-D was launched; Film using the latest technology (at the time).

Four years later, Jaws: The Revenge was a huge hit—but was considered a box office failure. The fourth film in the franchise made just $51 million on a $23 million budget.

Jaws is available to watch on Netflix.

Jaws 2 is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
