Neil Gaiman punishes Sandman star for looking like Batman

to Sandman Creator Neil Gaiman, it’s been decades of watching others try to adapt his famous comedies into live action. Feature film releases have come and gone but a Netflix TV series is officially on the horizon and will premiere later this year. In a wide-ranging interview, Gaiman and series star Tom Sturridge spoke at length about the series with the former, saying he had to tell later to stop acting like Batman when in character. “I read it once and said, ‘Stop being Batman’,” Gaiman said. Entertainment Weekly. “He was trying to get a little whispered.” Adds Sturridge, “It was actually my first day! But it was so helpful.”

Noting Morpheus’ talk on the TV series, Gaiman went on to reveal his thoughts and how much he was involved in helping direct the series. “Morpheus’ dialogue is incredibly specific. It was probably what I was most obsessed with. Someone had written a great script, [showrunner] Alan Heinberg had rewrote a great script, and I would have seen it on every iteration, but there would always be a point at the end where I would keep coming back in Morpheus’ dialogue: making sure the words were correct, and that the rhythms were correct.”

Sturridge revealed advice Gaiman gave him, adding, “I remember you telling me that everything he says must feel like it’s etched in stone. He never improvises. He’s tried and realized every thought, dream, and moment, so he knows what you’re going to say. It was very helpful. “.

Sturridge will lead the series’ star cast alongside Howell-Baptiste. Other confirmed cast members include Gwendolyn Christie as Lucifer, Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess, Asim Choudary as Abel, Sanjeev Bhaskar as Kane, Jenna Coleman as Joanna Constantin, Julie Richardson as Ethel Krebs, David Thewlis as John Dee, Boyd Holbrook as the Corinthians, Stephen Fry as Gilbert, Patton Oswalt as the voice of Dreamcatcher Matthew, and as Dream siblings, Mason Alexander Park as Desire and Kirby Howell Baptist as Death.

The official Netflix description of the series reads: “A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fantasy, historical drama, and mythology intertwine seamlessly, The Sandman follows the people and places influenced by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he corrects the cosmic and human wrongs he made during his existence. broad.” With Netflix Geeked Week kicking off this summer, we can hope to reveal a full trailer, and possibly a premiere date, for Sandman.
