The sequel movie to Godzilla Vs. Kong is confirmed, with the film’s first director, Adam Wingard, confirming a return for this new adventure inside MonsterVerse, as well as actor Dan Stevens playing the main man. With the return of Adam Wingard rumored earlier last year, another rumor, specifically the rumored title of the movie, is making us think it’s likely that the King of the Lizards may not be returning. Will the sequel be titled “Son of Kong” after all?
Fast forward to last year’s release of Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse crossover, The Hollywood Reporter He spread the rumor that not only is Wingard set to return to this Kaiju world, but also that the upcoming movie might be titled “Son of Kong” instead of Godzilla vs. Kong Part 2. This could mean that a new generation of giant monsters will be introduced and will see new iterations of both Kong and the Lizard King hitting the scene. Sure, with so many monsters yet to be adapted into MonsterVerse from the Toho universe, from which it originally originated, the playing field may change as it is possible that Godzilla and even Kong may not appear.
That’s not to say we’ll never see the Legendary take on King of the Monsters again, as Apple TV+ is currently working on a TV series set to expand on MonsterVerse and presumably will have plenty of screen time to rock Godzilla his way around the world. While details about this upcoming series are few and far between, recent rumors surrounding the series see Wyatt Russell, aka the US agent from… Falcon and the Winter Soldierlikely to be revealed for a leadership role.
This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve been introduced to the descendants of the ruler of Skull Island, since 1933. son of Kong We present a 12-foot version of the gigantic ape that fought alongside humans for most of the movie. Of course, in this follow-up to the original king kong characterGodzilla was nowhere to be seen because he predated the Lizard King by a number of decades.
Needless to say, it’s of course a very real possibility for Godzilla to return, although MonsterVerse may also be looking to give kaiju fans a curve ball.
