Retirement is important to professional athletes, and while the vast majority of them are leaving their own sports and moving on to post-career activities, few of the great can’t put it on hold and have to come back. Tom Brady hasn’t finished his soccer practice, Michael Jordan is back in basketball, and now apparently, Ric Flair is training to get back in the ring to wrestling – because of course he will.
Rumor has it that Ric Flair, The Nature Boy, is currently training to return to pro wrestling at the age of 73. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio claims that Flair’s whispers about a comeback of some kind are true (via F4online.com). Meltzer also claimed that Flair will join FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) in a match against The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton) and another competitor.
The iconic wrestler’s last major match occurred in 2011 when Sting defeated him on an episode of TNA Effect. As for WWE, the Hall of Famer has officially retired from in-ring work there after a match with Shawn Michaels in 2008 during WrestleMania 24. The news that any 70-year-old North wrestler wants to have an actual match is surprising. , although anyone who would guess a legend would try to do exactly that, it would be Slick Ric.
However, the big question surrounding these rumors is which wrestling organization will allow Ric Flair to wrestle in their organization. While it’s undeniable that he’s one of the biggest names to ever appear on the professional wrestling circuit, he’s struggled with health issues (which he’s opened up about with his regrets) in the past years which could make a comeback a bit tricky. Flair was put into a medical coma in 2017 to have part of his intestines removed and unfortunately suffered several other complications. Of course, that was years ago, and he’s looking good in this practice session with wrestling superstar Jay Lethal:
Like I said – it’s all about the basics. If you can’t hit, you can’t kick, you can’t work! WOOOOOO! MustafaHosny Oh God, AmenMay 13, 2022
It’s hard not to be impressed by these shots, especially when seeing Ric Flair take the bumps in practice that people were shocked to see younger Steve Austin at WrestleMania not long ago. Once again, we’re not just talking about an older wrestler hoping to get back in the ring, we’re talking about one of the sexiest and messiest wrestlers of all time.
Another thing worth noting is that the man still knows how to attract the masses even in his current home. A surprise reveals a friend of Hulk Hogan And he even had a Little Runner with Becky Lynch on his title. In short, he’s one of the few wrestlers who can step into the ring at his age and fans get excited, and it’s certainly no surprise that he’s looking forward to starting a new quest. But we still have to wait and see if that actually happens.
