The Houston Astros just got so much better

By adding Mauricio Dupont in a trade with the Giants, the Houston Astros now look more dangerous than before.

The Houston Astros have acquired the young escort man Mauricio Dupont From the San Francisco Giants vs. Minor League Hunter Mike Babersky.

At Dubon, the Astros are seizing the opportunity of a small, multi-use court option that can also play some court as well. With Thairo Estrada appearing on the Giants roster and Tommy La Stella’s return from the injured list looming, the Giants simply no longer have a place for Dubon on their active roster.

Since he is out of the minor league options, he cannot be sent to the minor leagues without making a round through concessions first.

Dupont, still only 27 years old, joins the Astros in what will be the third trade he has been a part of in his still very young career.

A 26-round draft in 2013 by the Boston Red Sox, Dubon was flipped to the Milwaukee Brewers with Travis Shaw opposite Tyler Thornburg. In two games of the Brewers’ tenure, he switched to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Drew Pomeranz, a move that worked for the Brewers hugely.

Four years, over 500 board appearances, 15 home runs and 2.2 bWAR later, Dubon now finds himself as a member of the Houston Astros where he will serve as a frequently used bench bat who can play second, third, short or any of the three outside spots. So far this season, Dubon has a batting average of 0.234 with two home runs, 8 RBI and 10 runs in his first 22 games, including one last night with the Astros.

With Jose Altuve, Jeremy Peña and Aldemís Diaz all missing at least one match due to injury last week and Nico Goodrum struggling to the point of being demoted to minors, the Astros could use a backup option in case more injuries occur.

At Papierski, the Giants are acquiring a 26-year-old goalkeeper who has yet to break in the major slams for the first time. He’s made more than 10 home runs in just one season and he’s achieved a lot. His eye is one of the only positives of his when attacking profile, as he routinely draws a lot of walking, sometimes more than he misses.

To start the 2022 season at Triple-A, Papierski saw plenty of time in first base due to the fact that he posted poor defensive metrics behind the board up to this point.

As it currently stands, the Astros find themselves tied for first place with the Los Angeles Angels at AL West. The Astros seem to have a better club in the long run, and should find themselves comfortable in a playoff at the end of the year.
