New York Yankees first team captain Anthony Rizzo has been fired by home board referee Manny Gonzalez over a call controversy.
Throughout Anthony Rizzo’s entire MLB career, he has only been fired twice. That number grew by one during the New York Yankees’ game against the Baltimore Orioles on May 19.
During a match at the top of the eighth inning, Rizzo watched as two low pitches thrown by Joey Kripiel were called in by home board referee Manny Gonzalez. The playing field was thrown into the same general area during Giancarlo Stanton’s attack immediately afterwards, and the ball was called.
After hearing a noise in the dugout, Gonzalez called for an expulsion, and it was none other than Rizzo. In the next video, you can read Rizzo’s lips, where he says “I’m better than that! You know I’m better than that.”

At the time of the expulsion, the Yankees were trailing 5-6. But they tied the game at the top of the ninth with DJ LeMahieu’s song. He won Baltimore 9-6 in the bottom ninth in three rounds from Homer Anthony Santander.
