Revamped Google TV app with new Highlights feed is now widely rolled out

The Google TV app was revamped earlier this year with Material You tweaks and a new “Highlights” tab. This new tab mainly displays YouTube videos, news, reviews and other articles related to the movies and TV shows you are interested in. The updated Highlights feed is now rolling out widely with the latest Google TV update, but unfortunately the update doesn’t include all of the material changes you’re designing.

The redesigned app adds a bunch of new tabs at the bottom to make it easier to find what you need. The Highlights tab, as mentioned earlier, is the place for you if you want additional information or content related to the movies and TV shows you’re interested in. You’ll also see a Share button for, well, share this content across platforms and a Stacked Cards button for uploading Related Highlights. You will also be able to like or dislike the content you see in order to fine-tune your feed. This should work similar to how you set Google’s Discover feed to see relevant content.

Next to it is the For You tab, which is now the new Home tab. It appears that Google has removed the top tabs for Movies and Shows from the home page of the older version. It’s now part of the For You tab and you’ll find it as you scroll down. Shopping is next, and we expect this to become more relevant and useful once the Play Store gets rid of the Play Movies & TV tab. Finally, there’s the Your Stuff tab which is a unified list to show what’s in your library and watchlist. This may not be the most intuitive way to access the library for some as it is now taking an extra step, but this is how Google decided to switch things up with the new update.

The new version (v4.32.50) of the Google TV app with a new redesign is now rolling out to the Play Store. The update, as mentioned earlier, doesn’t bring a material mod, so it looks like it’s reserved for an upcoming update.
