LG has announced a new 4K laser projector that features some high-end specs, including 3,700 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
It’s called the LG HU915QE Ultra-Short Throw Laser Projector (not the sexiest name ever) and it’s a sequel to the LG HU715Q that LG announced earlier this year.
Being an ultra-short-throw projector, the HU915QE is capable of producing 90-inch images – larger than even the best 4K TVs out there – from just a 2-inch distance from the wall. Pull it back seven inches from the wall and you’ll have a 120-inch screen.
In terms of design, the new model looks like a rectangular box with a cloth grille covering the speaker grille. Inside, the projector has a 2.2-channel, 40-watt speaker system – perhaps a bit lackluster compared to the best soundbar – but LG says this can be improved by adding additional wireless Bluetooth speakers.
For streaming enthusiasts, the projector uses LG’s smart WebOS platform that can access top streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV, Disney Plus, and more. LG says that the display supports screen mirroring and AirPlay 2 as well.
Last but not least, LG has equipped the HU915QE with a number of useful TV technologies such as HDR Dynamic Tone Mapping that adds an HDR-like look to non-HDR content and LG’s Brightness Optimizer II which can automatically adjust light output based on the surrounding lighting conditions in the room. These are great perks for a high-end projector like this and should make movie lovers very happy.
So how much will it cost? Well, this is where things get a little murky.
LG hasn’t said exactly how much the newest member of the Cinebeam family will set you back, but it will definitely be in the $5,000 to $6,000 range. The LG HU85LA, another laser projector with a similar design and specs, cost $4,999 when it came out in 2019. There’s a chance that the newer model will be a little cheaper, but not by much.
Until we have a confirmed release date, there’s no way to know how much the HU915QE will cost, but if the HU915Q is at $3000, it won’t be cheap.
