‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ trailer reveals an epic love story

Seven years after the critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller is back in the director’s chair for the epic romance Three Thousand Years of Longing.

Based on the 1994 short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” by English writer A. Bayat, “Three Thousand Years of Longing” stars Tilda Swinton as Alethia, a brilliant scientist who encounters a jinn (Idris Elba) imprisoned in a jar. Over the course of a long conversation in a hotel room in Istanbul, the jinn make a deal with Alethia to grant her her three wishes if she helps him gain his freedom. Alithea’s desires lead to two decades navigating through time, while developing unexpected feelings for one another.

“Three Thousand Years of Longing” will screen globally at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday. Miller wrote the script with August Gore and produced the film with Doug Mitchell. Craig McMahon and Kevin Sun executives produced the film, while Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Nation Entertainment and Kennedy Miller Mitchell produced the film. The film will be distributed by United Artists Releasing.

Miller, best known for creating the Mad Max movie series and starring in all four of his films, is currently filming Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy appears in the film as a younger version of the title character, who was originally played in “Fury Road” by Charlize Theron. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke will also co-star in the film written by Miller and Nico Laturis. The film is in production in Australia and is scheduled to premiere worldwide on May 24, 2024.

“Three Thousand Years of Longing” opens in US cinemas on August 31. Watch the full trailer below.
