The company’s owner, Embracer Group, recently indicated that Gearbox has not just one or two games, but nine AAA games in play right now. The parent company said a lot during an earnings presentation as it talked about the recent successes of Gearbox Entertainment and Gearbox Publishing and hinted at the studio’s future by referring to the nine games. No details were mentioned in the report to hint at what these games might look like, but based on previous announcements, we already have an idea of some of the things Gearbox is working on.
Relevant comments from Embracer Group, the massive company that acquired Gearbox in 2021, were present at Slide 28 From the most recent view of the parent company’s earnings. After echoing comments from Take-Two Interactive about the success Wonders of Tiny TinaEmbracer has revealed the large number of projects Gearbox is working on.
“Gearbox continues to expand the organization to deliver on its ambitious growth plan, and there are currently nine AAA games in development,” the presentation said.
Gearbox has already talked about some of those. Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom, for example, is a new roguelite published by Gearbox and developed by Under the Stairs after its unveiling during PAX East. It was also recently announced that Gearbox will be revisiting its tales from the Borderlands series with a new narrative-based game in the works as well. Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford (via jimatsuI talked about that new game when it was announced and he said we’ll see completely new characters and stories applied in this game.
“Because of the success and our love of tales, and because of our interest in developing the world of Borderlands in new ways, we thought it would be fun and exciting to dive into the form of interactive fiction again,” Pitchford said. “This time around, we’re doing this to imagine entirely new characters and entirely new stories from the Borderlands. […] We’ve been secretly working on this experiment for many years. And I can’t wait to announce this brand new game this summer and show you all what we’ve been up to.”
Looking at nearly three years since then Borderlands 3 Released, it wouldn’t be surprising to know that one of these nine projects represents another Borderlands game beyond the new Tales chapter, but there has been a long gap between Borderlands 2 And Borderlands 3This does not mean that any such project will be launched anytime soon.
