Joshua Poatsey defeats Craig Richards by UD in a competitive competition

Lightweight British players Joshua Poatsey and Craig Richards fought in a very competitive match from England, but Poatsey won all the cards.

Joshua Poatsey and Craig Richards performed for their compatriots in London, the O2 Arena in England, on May 21, but Poatsey remained undefeated in an entertaining lightweight heavyweight bout.

Buatsi (15-0, 13 KOs) was the favorite on paper and corroborated the predictions. He was able to control the action for the majority of the match.

Poatsey made an early lead in the cards, but Richards came back alive in the eighth round. Richards worked well behind his punches in the later rounds and got his punches produced.

Poatsey is still winning the extended rounds, and Richards has given a lot early on. The judges returned two cards of 115-113 and one of 116-112.

FanSided had the fight wider at 118-110, but rounds 3 and 9 were swing rounds. Regardless, the proper boxer won.

Joshua Poatsey won the three judges’ scorecards to defeat Craig Richards by unanimous decision.

Poatzi won the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics, but he hasn’t climbed the rankings as quickly as some had expected after five years into his professional career. However, he deserves credit for defeating a formidable opponent at Richards.

Richards (17-3-1, 10 KOs) came into his fight with some blemishes on his record. His most recent defeat to WBA champion Dmitry Bevol in 2021 came by unanimous decision.

Richards held out against Poatsey as he did against Bevol but couldn’t produce enough fireworks early on, which cost him the match.

ESPN Poatzi was ranked seventh in the world’s light heavyweight division. Artur Petterbiev, Joe Smith, Jr. and Bevol hold all four titles.

Peterbiev and Smith meet in a unification match on June 18 and could lead to the undisputed champion in the near future. Poatsey probably won’t get a title soon, but he should rise in ranks after his victory over Richards.
