Pete Davidson is leaving Saturday Night Live, along with at least Kate McKinnon, Eddie Bryant and Kyle Mooney. The group’s departure will leave a giant hole that both returning and new cast members will need to try to fill, but that’s an issue Lorne Michaels and the company will have to explore this summer. Last night was all about saying goodbye to both the cast and season 47. It was all about saying goodbye the right way, and Pete Davidson, of course, did it in typical Pete Davidson style.
The comedian appeared during a weekend update and got about four minutes to tell jokes and reflect on his time at Studio 8H. As always, what he offered was a perfect balance between hilarious jokes, self-deprecating shots and a warm appreciation for opportunity. The audience’s usual response to a joke is either laughter or silence. Anytime you feel panting or some chatter, you know the joke did something. That was definitely the case here. We’ve all been slapped in the face with Chris Rock and Will Smith jokes over the past month, but most of those were within the expected context. I guess everyone assumed we were getting a lot better SNL Specific jokes, and when they were dumbfounded by pointing at the slap, it caused a lot of shock.
There was a lot of trauma during Pete Davidson’s tenure SNL interval. He never strayed from a sensitive topic or jokes that crossed the line by a few steps. He delivered comedy in his own way, which was at times unusually appropriate amidst other cast members doing more traditional comedy. But something about him worked, and he quickly grew into a fan favorite member.

At least parts of Post-Davidson.Saturday Night Live Career looks very straightforward. He will be starring and writing a comedy for Peacock called bobkiss, along with Eddie Falco, as well as a film in Australia. It’s also assumed that he’ll be able to spend more time with Kim Kardashian and possibly on some backup dates. We hope to see him appear in more movies and TV shows too, because it’s always a pleasure to see him matching his unique energy with other projects.
Saturday Night Live He’ll be back next year for Season 48 with some new cast members and plenty of airtime available for people to step in and become stars.
