Pete Davison Posts Goodbye Message to SNL Before Final Episode

Tonight is the final episode of “Saturday Night Live” by Pete Davidson, and he took to one of his friends on Instagram to deliver an emotional message to fans and share a behind-the-scenes video from his first night on the show.

Davidson took on “Saturday Night Live” friend and writer Dave Sirus on Instagram on May 21, hours before the last show, to deliver the message. Alongside the script was a video of his emotional reaction to finishing his first sketch and celebrating behind the scenes with fellow comedian Jerrod Carmichael.

“This video was taken 8 years ago. Jerrod sent it to me last night and it made me very emotional in the best way,” he wrote. “In the video I had just come back from doing my first update and drawing. It’s crazy to think I’m going to do the last one today. When I got the show I was 20 and had no idea what I was doing. Still not doing but especially at that time. I wasn’t really a sketch artist, I was just a pause. I knew I could never keep up with Keenan Thompson or Kate McKinnon or go toe-to-toe, so I was too scared to know what I could bring or do for such a respected historical show and platform. Popped since I became a pose, I’ll just try to stand up and personalize the weekend update myself and I’m so glad I did. I’ve shared so much with this audience and literally grow bigger right before your very eyes. We’ve been together through good times and bad, the happiest and darkest of times. I owe it to Lorne Michaels and everyone on SNL with my life. I’m so grateful and wouldn’t be here without them. I appreciate you guys always supporting my back and sticking with me even when that wasn’t public opinion. Thank you for always believing in me and sticking to my side even when it seemed so comical. Thank you for teaching me Life values, how to grow and Giving me memories that will last a lifetime. SNL is my home. I am so happy and sad about tonight’s show. For many reasons that I cannot explain. I can’t wait to come back next year with Mulani’s music number. ⁃ Young Resident Pete Davidson
